Honfleur
Terre d’Estuaire
Located on the southern bank Estuary of the River Seine opposite Le Havre, where it enters La Manche or the English Channel, Honfleur is a stunning 15th - 18th century town based around its Vieux Bassin or Old Harbour.
The town houses with slate covered frontages surrounding the harbour have been immortalised on canvas by Claude Monet, Gustave Courbet and local artist Eugène Boudin who together with others formed the ‘Honfleur School’ which became part of the Impressionist Movement.
Don’t miss the unusual wooden 15th century Ste Catherine’s Church built by shipwrights in a vaulted form or La Lieutenance at the entrance to the Vieux Bassin, which was part of the port’s defences and where the King’s Lieutenant was based.

Before leaving, why not take a short excursion to check out the nearby stunningPont de Normandie which links Honfleur to Le Havre on the North Bank of the Seine. There is a footpath across as well as a cycle lane which are free of charge although the carriageway for vehicles is tolled. See the website in Practical Information below for further information.
