Northern France
Northern France is made up of two Régions, Normandie (previously Haute & Basse Normandie) and Hauts-de-France, (previously Picardie & Nord-Pas-de-Calais).
Both offer beautiful countryside and amazing coastlines. The Seine River flows through some spectacular gorges near Les Andelys before reaching the sea at Le Havre, while the Somme River meanders through the Hauts-de-France before entering the sea near Abbeville, the gateway to the Somme Bay.
Top cities/towns to visit are Caen, Evreux, Rouen and Falaise in Normandie while in the Hauts-de-France, Abbeville, Amiens, Arras, Boulogne and Lille are the main places. Both Régions have their fair share of attractive villages too which you’ll come across while touring the area.
Other unmissable attractions are the D-Day Landing Beaches, Monet’s Garden and the Bayeaux Tapestry in Normandie. In the Hauts de France Château de Chantilly and Vimy Ridge are both memorable for very different reasons.
