Monet’s Garden
Giverny
The Great Impressionist Painter Claud Monet spent the last years of his life at Giverny during the late 19th century until his death in 1926. Many of his large canvasses of water lilies were created here although only reproductions can be seen today in Monet’s House as the originals are exhibited at the Orangerie and the Marmottan museums in Paris.
The beautiful walled garden, designed by the great man himself, slopes down to the banks of the River Epte which feeds the Japanese water garden on the other side of the road and is reached via a tunnel.
