Château de Chantilly

A Chateau on the Water

Château de Chantilly

While there had been has been a castle on this site for hundreds of years, a splendid Renaissance Chateau was built here in 1528 for Anne de Montmorency, who served as the Constable of France under no less than six kings.

The estate later passed to Louis II of Bourbon, otherwise known as the Great Condé and his descendants. Like many such buildings, the Château was dismantled during the Revolution but subsequently rebuilt and refurbished during the mid 19th Century in the Renaissance style by Henri d’Orleans, the Duke of Aumale, who was the son of Louis Philippe, the last King of France.
