Located on the touristic Côte d’Opale between Calais and le Touquet, the old Roman Town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, to give it its full title, is today an important ferry terminal and fishing port.
For those interested in marine life the amazing aquarium Nausicaá, featuring 58,000 species including hammerhead sharks and manta rays, is an essential visit. Children will love it too!
The Haute-Ville surrounded by ramparts which you can walk around (Promenade des Ramparts) was the original fortified city. Check out the Basilique Notre-Dame, the Château Musée and the Neoclassical Hôtel Desandrouin also known as the Imperial Palace and used by Napoleon.
