Languedoc—Roussillon
Languedoc-Roussillon has a very mixed heritage and landscape and offers something for everyone. The Romans were everywhere of course but their presence is particularly evident in the east around Nîmes and the Pont du Gard and their roads run through the region to Spain. Further west history revolves around the Cathars and the Crusaders who persecuted them. Check out the Catalan culture of the Roussillon too, evident in other places outside of France you may have visited, like Mallorca and Barcelona, and famous for its red and yellow striped flags!
Cities
There are several large cities in the Languedoc-Roussillon each one as fascinating as it is different. In the very south is the Catalan city of Perpignan with its fabulous Palace of the Kings of Majorca.
