Pont Aven
A Haven forArtists
Pont-Aven simply means River bridge and is an idyllic small town located in the Finistère departémentonly a short distance from Concarneau. It’s hard to imagine but this pretty, peaceful village was involved in the Red Bonnets Anti-Tax Rebellion against Louis XIV in 1675.
It’s most recent claim to fame is however, that a group of artists led by Emile Bernard and Paul Gauguin - ‘the Pont Aven School’ was based here during the second half of the nineteenth century.
Pont-Aven is still a haven for artists and those who just love art so, if the Muses speak to you, fetch your paints, your brushes and your easel and you’ll be in great company in this beautiful corner of Brittany!
