Le Louvre

The home of the Mona Lisa

La joconde

Arguably one of the most well known museums in the world and located in the 1st Arrondissement on the Right Bank of the Seine on the site of the original Louvre Palace built by Philip II during the late 12th and early 13th centuries.

It became a museum following the Revolution and opened on 1th August 1793 exhibiting works of art confiscated from royalty and the church. Nowadays it has an extensive collection covering thousands of years including the Venus de Milo and, most famous of all, Mona Lisa.

It is advisable to book online in advance to avoid queuing.
