Vimoutiers
Home of Normandy Cider & Camembert
Vimoutiers is a small town in the Orne département at the centre of Normandy’s cider industry and located on the banks of the River Vie. As you might expect it is surrounded by apple trees which supply the local cider factories. It had the misfortune to be destroyed by Allied forces on 14th June 1944 during the Normandy Invasion but has been faithfully restored.

As important to the local economy as cider is, Vimoutiers is perhaps better known for its Camembert cheese and the Musee de Camembert is here. A must for cheese lovers who can discover how this world renowned foodstuff is made as well as its history.
Finally Vimoutiers is the finshing line for the Paris-Camembert Lepetit one day cycle race held in April every year.
