Périgord Pourpre
Purple Périgord
The Périgord Pourpre or Purple Périgord – the name suggests that this region produces fine, dark red wine. Indeed that is the intention!
Bergerac Wine
Located in the south west of the Dordogne département, the Purple Périgord straddles the river and its capital Bergerac lies mostly on the right bank. The region produces many world famous wines and the vineyards surround the town on both banks of the river.
The wide flat river valley here provides much agricultural land some of which is engaged in producing not only the aforementioned wine, but also maize (corn) and other cereals, sunflowers, fruit and tobacco.
