Kefalonia
World famous beaches
As the largest island in the Ionians, not only is Kefalonia blessed with swathes of sandy beaches and azure waters to choose from, there’s also natural wonders such as the cave of Melissani near the town of Sami which has a 20 to 30 metre deep lake inside, surrounded by its own forest. It’s possible to take a boat trip inside.
For something truly out of the ordinary, try Drogarati Cave with its impressive display of stalactites and stalagmites and, due to its amazing acoustics, sometimes offers cultural events such as classical concerts.
Myrtos Beach is world famous for its long sandy landscape, blue waters and used as a film location for Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
Luckily, due to its size Kefalonia always has a beach that suits every taste and doesn’t always get terribly overcrowded, unlike some other package destinations.
