Samos

Island of the ancient goddess Hera

Samos

Beach holiday, discovering ancient sites or relaxing by the bar, Samos has it all.

Lemonakia, Kokkari, Tsamadou and Mykali are among the most popular beaches on the island where forest meets sea and several coves offer a more private environment to swim. Scuba diving and windsurfing are some of the favourite water sports on offer.

The Sanctuary of Heraion is dedicated to the ancient Greek goddess who was said to have been born in Heraion village on the island. It’s a ruin but beautiful to walk around.

The Cave of Pythagoras has to be the most famous site on Samos as it’s where the famous ancient mathematician and philosopher hid and lived out his life. It’s 2 miles from Votsalakia beach yet access is quite difficult. There’s a well-signposted path, but it gets steep as you reach the cave so pay extra attention. From there you’ll have great views of the valley and the sea below.
