Aegina
Home of the Temple of Athena Aphaia
With regular ferry services from Athens lasting between 30 mins and one hour, and a good mix of beaches, seaside villages and home of the Temple of the Athena Aphaia, Aegina is an excellent short break get away destination and offers something for everyone.
Aegina Town is the capital and also where the ferries dock, offering colourful neoclassical buildings, a long waterfront esplanade with tavernas and cafes and to the north of the town, beside the small sandy beach is the remains of the ancient temple dedicated to Apollo.
The quiet, picturesque fishing village of Marathon is the best beach on Aegina–although small coves also predominate where you can swim off rocks–and offers a sandy stretch with a private area or a part to rent sun beds.
