Thessaloniki
The 'friendly' city
Greece’s second largest city after Athens, Thessaloniki is often referred to as ‘The Friendly City’ because despite being large, it has a friendly ‘big village’ feel.
The city has a rich Byzantine and Roman history, reflected in the architecture and monuments to visit and also several museums ranging from the traditional Archaeological Museum to the more quirky Cinema Museum along the promenade–showcasing the history of cinema in Greece and the Park of Dinosaurs where you’ll learn about various species of dinosaurs and fossils, as well as a Cave of Evolution.
The seaside promenade is often packed with locals and tourists alike all year round at the weekends, sipping their frappes at one of the many cafes or eating a family lunch/dinner at a taverna.
