Halkidiki
The Peninsular with three legs
Halkidiki – also Chalkidiki – is actually a peninsular in Northern Greece, the capital of the region Poligiros.
Three legs jut out from the peninsular:
-
Kassandra–offering many tourist resorts and beaches
-
Sithonia–a quieter area with small coves
-
Athos–the famous monastic community is based on the mountain here, only entrance to men allowed with special permission.
There’s so much to see and do here that you could spend a week basing yourself in Thessaloniki or one of the gorgeous hotels in the area and exploring the nature, culture of the Byzantine monasteries and hidden caves, the tiny villages and the beaches.
Here is an idea of some of the things to experience.
