Wing Lee Street

Movie gives Reprieve for '50s Tenements

This row of mid-20th century tenements on Wing Lee Street was slated for the wrecking ball until the street was used as a location for Echoes of the Rainbow, shown at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival. Local protest halted demolition. Although some tenants moved out, some flats were renovated. Once ubiquitous throughout Hong Kong, apartment complexes like this one is now rare. Wing Street is located off Ladder Street, up an unmarked flight of stairs and past a school.
