Isola

Perpetual Italian spring (l,d; $$)

While Isola’s website claims that this is Hong Kong’s most stunning waterfront restaurant (a claim it can share, perhaps, with nearby Watermark), the real claim to fame for this Italian restaurant in ifc mall is its huge outdoor terrace with great views of Kowloon.

But even indoors, the tony restaurant, bathed in white and with a window facade, is highly recommended for the sheer exuberance of dining in such a light-infused venue with Hong Kong as the backdrop (the food is great, too).

My favorite time to come is for lunch, when the place bustles with the local professional crowd and the set meal lets me visit the antipasti buffet and offers a choice of a main course. Dinner, however, is more relaxing.

Other recommendations include handmade pastas, thin-crust pizzas, and entrees like grilled salmon with braised grapefruits endives, shallots and tarragon sauce, or roasted suckling pig, honey and artichokes and asparagus. You don’t have to dress up to dine here, but you won’t want to look scruffy, either.
