Hong Kong Park
Aviary, greenhouse, tea museum, playground & more
The 20-acre/8-hectare Hong Kong Park, once the grounds of Victoria Barracks housing British soldiers, has a beautiful setting, with streams, ponds, and waterfalls linking the various attractions. Because of a marriage registry at the edge of the park, it’s a natural also for wedding photographs. It attracts kids of all ages, making it a great place to observe Hongkongers at play.
For the little ones there’s a large playground (closed Mondays 7am-1pm for maintenance), a viewing platform reached via 105 stairs, and an aviary with an elevated pathway through a tropical rainforest setting. For grownups there’s one of Southeast Asia’s largest greenhouses, with desert and tropical jungle plants; a conservation garden for dragonflies; squash courts (fees charged); free public bird watching every Wed 8-10am; and the Flagstaff Museum of Tea Ware. There’s also a pleasant restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and two food kiosks.
