White River Gardens
An Oasis of Beauty in Indiana's Only Urban State Park
Flowers your thing? Visit the 3-acre White River Gardens.
These gardens include the 5000-square-foot Hilbert Conservatory, a towering glass enclosure with 65-foot ceilings is climate controlled and hosts multiple seasonal shows each year. The interior is lush and tropical filled with palm trees and blooming plantscapes. Outdoors, there’s the DeHaan Tiergarten which bursts with a myriad of plants and garden designs that change seasonally.
The Gardens are part of the www.whiteriverstatepark.org/ which is located on a brick-lined stretch of the National Road, the country’s the first major highway which ran over 600 miles starting on the East Coast. It’s a pretty meander where bridges cross the White River and go past the public art installations. Travel further beyond to the many green spaces such as Bison Plaza with its large bison statue.
