White River State Park
White River State Park, just two blocks west of the state Capitol, is the only urban park in the state and offers a plethora of options.
With so much to choose from, it's hard to know where to start. But a personal favorite is Indianapolis Zoo with its 360 different species of animals. Stop at the aquarium where those who don't mind getting wet can reach out and touch sharks (don't worry these are the friendly ones) or take a tour behind the scenes. Ride the Kombo, a safari-themed family roller coaster that has enough dips and turns to keep kids thrilled but gentle enough for parents.
But best of all may be Of the plethora of activities at White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis is probably the most popular is the Simon Skolt International Orangutan Center designed to protect, study and nurture these rapidly disappearing, super bright primates.
