International Orangutan Center
Orangutans at Indy’s White River State Park
Of the plethora of activities at White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis probably the most popular is the Simon Skolt International Orangutan Center designed to protect, study and nurture these rapidly disappearing, super bright primates.
The zoo has the largest number of orangutans in America. Board a Skyline cable car to see the orangutans whose arms can span
nine-feet, maneuver 45 to 80 feet up along cables, bridges and platforms or enter the center and get up front and personal in the multi-viewing section where the apes press their noses to the windows seemingly just as interested in you as vice versa.
And in the ultimate merger of nature and modern technology,
the orangutans have learned to use IPads to order their meals.
