Derby
River Days
Located on a bend where the wide and slow-moving Ohio River turns south and edged by the 200,000-acre Hoosier National Forest, Derby is the perfect spot to get away from it all. In fact—it is away from it all.
Check into the Forgotten Times Cabins or Ohio River Cabins to both play and relax.
Rent kayak and paddle on Oil Creek—okay so it's not a pretty name but it is a pretty stretch of water—or a pontoon boat for playing on the Ohio. Hike through the Hoosier National Forest.
The trail head for Morgan Ridge East Trail starts near the center of ORC and, crossing Clover Lick Creek, meanders through the Hoosier National Forest connecting to numerous trails including Morgan Ridge West, Saddle Lake and Tipsaw Lake Trails and Oriole East and West Trails.
Tipsaw is a good swimming lake with a public beach. Wildlife abounds along the trail and it’s not unusual to see deer, turkeys, blue herons, ducks and even a beaver or two.
