Southwest Indiana is a land of rolling hills, winding lanes, horse pastures lined with white wooden fences, small towns where families have lived for generations, woodlands, and rivers including the mighty Ohio and Wabash rivers. The fate of our nation was decided in Vincennes, Indiana's oldest city. It’s also where one of the first communes was established back in the early 1800s (and you thought communes were a 1960s-thing) in lovely New Harmony and the oldest restaurant in the state—a place that Lincoln dined. The Log Inn originally a stagecoach stop opened in 1826 and is still in business.
There’s history here and beauty. And fun. Home to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, home to some of the best wooden roller coasters in the country, this family owned, independent amusement and water park, though tucked away in the middle of nowhere, attracts 1.5 million visitors a year.
