Perry County
With miles and miles of the Ohio River winding its way through the hilly landscape and nearly 60,000 acres of the Hoosier National Forest, Perry County in Southern Indiana is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts as well as wine lovers following the Uplands Wine Trail.
The river towns of Perry County are a stop on the 981-mile Ohio River Scenic Route that passes through six states and was designated a National Scenic Byway in 1996, a distinction held by other notable routes like the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Natchez Trace and the Pacific Highway
West from Derby, a lovely bend on the water with cabins and boat rentals available, the road follows the river through Cannelton with its old cotton mill, now a National Historic Landmark which, when it was built in 1849, was the largest industrial building west of the Alleghenies.
