Lincoln State Park
A Land Unchanged By Time
The 1742-acre Lincoln State Park was established in 1932 as a memorial to Nancy Hanks Lincoln. One of the big attractions here is the Lincoln Amphitheatre, the only completely covered amphitheater in the United States. It’s the perfect place to see a play on a summer evening.
There are canoe, paddleboat and rowboat rentals for Lake Lincoln which has a great sandy beach and miles of hiking trails.
The land is in many ways unchanged since the Lincoln family lived here back in the early 1800s. It’s a thought to keep in mind when walking along its wooded trails that one of our greatest presidents would have seen the same sights. It may be the closest we can get to the world where Lincoln lived.
See a Lincoln play at the amphitheater, tour the nature center, fish and visit the Sarah Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve to see relic species of prairie plants and animals such as beavers, Mississippi kites and herons that make their homes here.
