Lanthier Winery
One of three Madison wineries
Lanthier Winery, located near the Ohio River in a brick building dating back to the mid 1700s, has unique 24-inch thick stone walls and through the years has been, during the city's heyday as a riverboat city and railroad hub, a trading post as well as a place for sailors and railroad men looking for a place to stable their horse and meet a woman for a non-meaningful relationship of short duration. Near the Ohio River, it has a wonderful garden full of lush blooms and a great tasting room.
It was the city's first winery, founded by Chris and Tami Lanthier who started remodeling the place in 1990 and opened the doors four years later. The winery now produces more than 20 various wines plus three holiday wines including Snowflake White, Saint Nicholas Blush and Rudolph Red.
Other Madison Wineries
Madison also has two other wineries with tasting rooms so stop by the Thomas Family Winery and Madison Vineyards Estate Winery, which is also a bed and breakfast. Madison Vineyards, set on 37 acres in the rolling hills just north of the downtown, offers frequent event, wine sampling, a full breakfast for those who stay in one of their four luxurious bedrooms and a small cottage perfect for a Girlfriend's Getaway, quiet places to contemplate and a large patio for enjoying the surroundings.
