Madison & Around
Recognized as “The prettiest Small Town in the Midwest” by Ladies Home Journal and “Best Preserved Town in the Midwest” by The Chicago Tribune, Madison boasts the largest historic district in Indiana.
The downtown offers an eclectic range of shops including art galleries and such stores as the Village Lights Bookstore and Cocoa Safari Chocolates.
For dining, step back in history at the Broadway Hotel and Tavern, which first opened in 1834 and is Indiana's oldest hotel and tavern, at the corner of Main and Broadway just across the street from the famed Broadway Fountain, a city landmark since the late 1800s.
Other dining options include great seafood at the Key West Shrimp House, a family owned restaurant with views of the Ohio River and housed in what was previously a button factory. Yes, button making was once a big industry here, using shells from the river.
