Sechler's Fine Pickles

All things pickle in St. Joe

Sechler's has been making pickles since 1914

There was a time, in the early 1900s, when almost every farm surrounding St. Joe, a smidgeon of a town located in northeast Indiana, loaded what was called brine stock (freshly picked cucumbers packed in salt brine) on a horse draw buggy and delivered them to the railroad stops that dotted this area. The pickles, which grow abundantly here, would be transported 20 miles away to Sears, a pickle company in Fort Wayne.

Most of those pickle companies are gone as are the train stops, but the company started by Ralph Sechler in 1914 still makes and sells pickles.

Sechler's Fine Pickles located on a stretch of flat farm land filled with vats of, you guessed it, pickles, is a niche market food purveyor that specializes in flavor intense pickles including their best selling Candied Sweet Orange Strip. For those who think that sounds like some type of new-fangled pickle flavor, think again.
