Shibuya 渋谷 & Around
Youth culture & THAT crossing
Put Shibuya on your Don’t Miss list.
You’re bound to have seen images of its Scramble Crossing, claimed to be the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing, with up to 3,000 people crossing at a time!
Shibuya is known for its youth fashion and culture, and its the birthplace to many of Japan's fashion and entertainment trends. It’s lively, packed with shopping, dining and nightclubs and just strolling the busy streets is a true Japan experience.
Make sure to check out the Hachikō Statue in front of the station, one of Tōkyō’s most popular meeting spots.
All Japanese know the Chūken Hachikō (Faithful Hachikō) story - in short, Hachikō waited for his master every day in front of Shibuya Station and continued to do so for years even after his master had passed away. Hachikō is so well known that his story was the basis for the 2009 American movie Hachi: A Dog's Tale, starring Richard Gere.
