Henna Café

Café and henna “tattoooist” with a social conscience (l,d; $)

Artist - Henna Cafe, Marrakech

The Henna Café is not merely a very good – and cheap – café and restaurant. It's also a great place to get henna tattoos, and a not-for-profit social enterprise that benefits the local community.

Food at the Henna Café is served on the upstairs roof terrace or the indoor salon, neither of which are very large, so it's not a great idea to arrive too mob-handed. The food is a nice change from the usual, with delicious mezze dishes such as hummus, lentil salad or falafel (starters and afters for 20dh, mains for 40dh).

Although the Henna Cafe is great for vegetarians and vegans, their house speciality is non-veg, consisting of khleer (cured lamb) in an omelette packed into a sandwich (40dh).

They even make a pretty decent stab at English breakfast tea, and there's hot chocolate too.

In addition, they have a whole menu of henna tattoo designs, ranging from simple ones for 50dh to intricate designs, traditionally done for weddings, which cost 400–550dh and need to be booked in advance.
