Plaza de la República & Around
Rising high above the Plaza de la República, one of the city’s largest squares, is the Monumento a la Revolución, a domed arch monument dedicated to the heroes of the Mexican Revolution. In and around the renovated plaza you’ll come across dancing fountains, rooftop restaurants, sidewalk cafes and a restored art deco casino with an adjoining jai alai arena.
North and west of the square lie San Rafael and Santa María la Ribera, two old neighborhoods that are well worth exploring on foot to soak up some local flavor, especially the area around the moorish-style Kiosko Morisko, a beautiful kiosk with a glass cupola dome.
