Parque Nacional Izta-Popo
Visit a stunning active volcano
For an epic hike, venture out to Izta-Popo National Park, where you can stand in awe before an active volcano as it spews columns of smoke hundreds of meters into the sky.
The park actually boasts two impressive volcanoes, the active Popocatépetl (El Popo) and the dormant Iztaccíhuatl (known as Izta), which are among Mexico’s highest peaks.
You can scale the 17,160-foot Izta (5,230-meter) but Popo is off-limits. Hikes range from easy to difficult, depending on your skill level and preparedness. The park is best reached by car.
