Outside the City
Exploring Mexico City’s surrounding areas pays big rewards.
In the south, the wooded grounds of Parque Nacional Desierto de los Leones and Parque Nacional Los Dínamos appeal to hikers and picnickers alike, while at Parque Nacional Cumbres del Ajusco, a hike to the top of the city’s highest peak affords expansive views of the vast valley below.
Further afield, two excellent day trips are offered by the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacán which deserve their place at the top of most bucket lists; while Parque Nacional Izta-Popo leaves visitors in a state of awe as they stand before an active volcano.
