Jardín del Centenario & Plaza Hidalgo
Coyoacán's buzzing main squares
Many activities in Coyoacán center around Jardín del Centenario, a shady square surrounded by open-air restaurants and bars, and the adjacent Plaza Hidalgo, where you’ll see a 16th-century convent and Casa de Cortés, an old government building dating back to the Spanish conquest.
The iconic coyote fountain in Jardín del Centenario is a nod to the Nahuátl term Coyoacán, meaning “place of coyotes.”
