Montreal Science Centre
Science for families
Occupiying a vast industrial hangar in the Old Port, the family-orientated Montreal Science Centre allows kids of all ages to explore science using all sorts of innovative and engaging multi-media technology.
It's very much hands on, with exhibits that vary from simple halls of mirrors, to making looped music or short animations. There's also a well-liked craft area where kids – and their entourage – use basic materials to overcome various challenges - such as designing a vessel to float on water.
Its immersive nature means that the museum rewards an unhurried approach, and there's certainly plenty here to fill the best part of a rainy or snowy day - not even counting the adjacent IMAX cinema ($13.25; concessions offered).
The museum's ideal for school-age kids (beware vast weekday school groups!) but there are also some good little sections for pre-schoolers.
