Grande Bibliothèque Nationale
Reading galore with places to watch films
The giant box clad in strips of green frosted-glass opposite Montreal's bus station is the $100-million Grande Bibliothèque Nationale which opened in 2005.
There's a constant bustle of readers here, with good reason, for its collection is impressive. From 200-year-old documents published in Québec to a generous selection of international newspapers and magazines, along with free wifi, and some exhibition spaces, there's plenty of reason to pop in.
If you're travelling with kids, a good place for a story break is the “Espace jeunes" (children’s section). The CD and DVD booths here and elsewhere are a particularly good bad weather option (obtain a free day pass at the reception desk; ID required).
