Brookgreen Gardens
Largest sculpture garden in U.S.
The garden museum is an outdoor and indoor art exhibit. It was founded in 1931 by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, and much of the large sculpture is her work. It was the first public sculpture garden and is the largest collection in the United States now, including some 1200 pieces by 350 sculptors.
The leisurely self-guided tour also showcases natural flora and fauna, and the massive live oaks draped with Spanish moss are impressive. Seasonal special events include entertainment.
Lowcountry zoo showcases animals in wild habitat and an aviary over the cypress swamp.
Be sure to make reservations to visit during early December weekends for Nights of a Thousand Candles which is spectacular.
