Chapelle de la Miséricorde
Baroque splendour on the Cours Saleya
As you walk through the Cours Saleya you will notice this splendid Baroque church, one of the finest in Nice. Moreover, the Miséricorde Chapel occupies a prime position in the Old Town. In addition, it stands close to the Opera de Nice and the Cathédrale Ste-Réparate.
Built between 1747 and 1770 by Bernardo Vittone to the design of the Italian Priest Guarini in the Baroque style, this elegant building has an elliptical nave and semi-circular side chapels distinguishing it completely from the straight lines of previous religious buildings.
The beautifully decorated interior, with some Bistolfi murals and two Retables (framed alter pieces), consequently led to its designation as a National Monument. Nowadays, it is in the care of the religious order of the Black Penitants.
Cours Saleya, 06300 Nice, Alpes-Maritimes.
Note: Not normally open but occasionally it is on Tuesday pm for a couple of hours.
