Vaucluse
Located on the left bank of the river Rhône and to the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône is the Vaucluse département lying very much at the heart of modern Provence. It takes its name from the Latin Vallis Clausis or closed valley into which the amazing Fontaine de Vaucluse surges.
Popes and Red Wine
The main attractions of Vaucluse are the Fountain mentioned above and the majestic Mont Ventoux in the north.
Some of the other must-see places in Vaucluse are the magnificent city of Avignon with its famous Palais des Papes and Pont St-Bénézet. Orange, Carpentras, Cavaillon and Apt, not to mention the Comtat itself all need to be on your list.
