Shieldaig Lodge

Highland hunting lodge: activities, bar & restaurant (£££)

A luxury getaway since Victorian times, when this was built as a hunting lodge, Shieldaig Lodge lies on a huge estate overlooking the lovely Shieldaig Bay.

It not only offers classy guest lounges (inc snooker table and library), bar and restaurant to guests in a dozen rooms, but it’s also a local hub for all sorts of guided activities.

Activities

These still include deer stalking and fishing but also kayaking, bike hire and guided hikes - most activities are open to non-guests.

One thing foodies should miss is the Shellfish Gastro Experience - where you get to bring in the catch with a local fisherman and then have the hotel chef cook up a 5-course meal for you on your return. Adults £120.

Restaurant & Bar

The restaurant is in any case very good and worth booking a table. The £69 tasting menu is one of many good options.

Also worth bearing in mind is the Liberator Bar with its selection of 250 whiskies.
