Doune Castle
Fine 14th-century Monty Python castle
Doune Castle is a real fairytale place, thanks in part to the usual labyrinth of half-ruined chambers, but also to a majestically resorted Lord's Hall: complete with musician's gallery and double fireplace.
For most of its life the castle's belonged to the Moray family, including James Stewart (James V's son and half-brother of Mary, Queen of Scots) who was murdered in 1592 and remembered in the ballad The Bonnie Earl of Moray (video).
But the castle's mostly famous as the setting of the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail (wooden rabbit scene).
