A Highland Fling In 3–4 Days

Highland Cattle, Kyloe, Schottisches Hochlandrind, Scotland

The Scottish Highlands evoke all sorts of Scots stereotypes: tartans; castles; lone pipers; bleak but beautiful heathery landscapes; a sense of tradition; and a stoic pride.

Much of this is there to experience and doable in 3 or 4 days, though more time will make it more rewarding. You could easily expand the itinerary below to week, particularly by adding extra days on the Isle of Skye.

Highland Tour

Whatever you do be prepared for poor weather, winding minor roads, a slower pace of life and fewer services: restaurants, shops and the like.

Day 1 Perth to Aviemore (2hr 30min driving)

Follow the Perthshire Explorer itinerary.

Day 2 Aviemore to Plockton (3hr driving)
