Loch Katrine
Loch cruises & cycling
Since 1900 the steamship SS Sir Walter Scott has been ferrying trippers around tranquil Loch Katrine for fine views of the surrounding wild mountains of the Trossachs National Park. More recently another small pleasure cruiser has been added to help out.
Between the two they sail up to six times per day. Most trips are just an hour-long, but the first sailing of each day is two hours and stops at Stronachlachar, a tiny settlement with a good little cafe around 10 miles east on the loch.
A popular option is to take a bike (rental available at the pier from Katerinewheelz); on the boat to Stronachlachar, then cycle back along the shores of the loch – see below.
Whatever you choose to do be sure to reserve the boat in advance, as space for both bodies and bikes is limited.
