Loch Ness Monster lore

Nessie

The little highland town of Drumnadrochit is the self-made capital of Nessie-mania. This is where visitors come to inform themselves about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster.

Legend

The Nessie Legend goes back to the 7th century when St Aiden allegedly spotted the beast. Many research projects, big and small, have subsequently tried to prove things one way or another, with a few hoaxes along the way. On balance it seems unlikely that Nessie exists, but some photos and sonar records of the deep and inky loch make complete denial hard.

Centres

A couple of places have set themselves up as “visitor centres” on the subject and, of them the Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition has the clear edge. Here you’ll find a detailed rundown of eyewitness accounts and various research projects that have attempted to unravel the legend. And it’s all brought to life in an attractive multimedia fashion.
