Ben Nevis Inn (Fort William)

Cosy pub & bunkhouse in an old barn (l,d; ££)

Ben Nevis Inn

For most the Ben Nevis Inn is the last building you pass on your way up Ben Nevis (Scotland’s highest mountain).... and the last building you come to on your return, when it’s it an extremely enticing stop for a pint.

Yet in other ways its location, at the end of a minor road some 3km outside Fort William, speaks against it. But the rewards for going out of your way are large portions of tasty home-made Scottish pub food (great burgers, gammon hock and a wide range of veggie options too); an unpretentious atmosphere with cheerful chatter around a roaring fire and sociable bench tables; and regular live music which generally packs the place out.

The inn also offers bunkhouse accommodation.
