Castle & Gardens of Mey

Queen mum’s fancy

Castle of Mey

Overlooking the windswept Caithness coast, the Castle of Mey has 16th-century origins but is perhaps most remarkable for being the pet project of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. She restored the castle and gardens to reflect her taste.

This makes the interiors a treasure trove of regal heritage, with opulent rooms and fascinating artifacts on display.

Tea at Castle of Mey

Its meticulously maintained gardens, filled with vibrant blooms and fragrant blossoms, provide a serene sanctuary.

And some corners have breathtaking views of the Orkney Islands from the castle’s stunning North Coast perch.
