Inverewe Gardens
Exotic flora in a fine loch-side location
Warm Atlantic winds and countless patient hours of skilful horticulture have made these gardens famous for rich floral displays.
The picturesque location no-doubt helps the gardens now, but originally these were barren shores, with just a single dwarf willow calling them home.
Things were progressively transformed in 1860s by the vision of one 20-year old Osgood Mackenzie, who turned them into a national treasure by the 1920s.
The gardens are at their best in spring and autumn, but there’s something of interest at any time of year.
