Train

Train

York is one of the UK's main train stations, with good connections both for local services and long distance intercity trains.

The east coast route London and Edinburgh has frequent fast services.

There are also cross-country, and east-west routes. The latter include direct trains stopping at Leeds, Manchester, Manchester Airport and Liverpool.

If you're travelling by train, do take a moment to look at the historic station itself.

TIP The main entrance to the station is convenient for buses and taxis. If you are heading somewhere on foot in the Clifton, Marygate or Bootham areas, however, Platform 4 leads directly to a footbridge over the river. The exit past Platform 11 will take you directly to the National Railway Museum.
