Highlights with local links include:
- The Anglo Saxon helmet found in Coppergate in 1982.
- The head of hair of a Roman woman.
- A Viking sword.
- The skull of a black woman from Roman York.
- Specimens of the Great Auk, an extinct bird.
- A marble head of the Roman emperor Constantine.
- Treasure from Viking York.
A special interactive exhibition about Dinosaurs in Yorkshire has proved such a success that it has been extended for the next few years.
