Accommodation

The former Railway Hotel at York

Thanks to its popularity as a destination, York has a lot of accommodation, with the market split in three ways:

  • Budget offerings include hostels, some in central locations, some, such as the YHA hostel, a walk away from the centre.

  • Mid price options are dominated by bed and breakfasts and small guest houses, both within and just beyond the city centre; and a growing number of modern, chain hotels, central or out on the fringes of the city.

  • High-end choices include vast, noble offerings like the five star Grand Hotel, or Bishopthorpe's upmarket Middlethorpe Hall along with a clutch of smaller high-end boutique options.
